I do not currently sell ice cream commercially. Try these alternative small creameries in Ottawa, all of which I have sampled: The Beachconers, the Merry Dairy, Lois ’n’ Frima’s, and Moo Shu Ice Cream. If you don't mind the trip to Merrickville, I've also enjoyed visits to The Downtowne Ice Cream Shop.
If you want home-made, hand-cranked ice cream, then you want Doug's Own. Doug has been making simple, natural ice cream since 1996.
Doug takes great pride in how little air there is in his ice cream. Commercial ice-cream-making equipment can inject air to keep the texture nice and light, and we don't judge if that's the way that you prefer your ice cream. But Doug's Own is hand-cranked with minimal extra air, which makes it solidly creamy with tons of butterfat. That means that if you keep Doug's Own in a home freezer, it will be hard when you first remove it from the freezer.
Doug's Own ice cream will always be "scoopable" if you let it sit at room temperature for a minute or three no matter what kind of freezer you have. But some of our customers are used to ice cream that you can serve the second it comes out of the freezer, and ours deliberately is not made that way, so we like to mention it up front.
We're on a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we still make ice cream on request occasionally.
Here are my 4 most popular flavours:

I've created custom ice cream flavours for those who miss what they grew up with and those who want to avoid the alcohol in vanilla extract. Just ask me!
My ice cream is $14 a pint, but you can order in any of these sizes:
I have also individual servings sizes:
* My prices had to increase given the incredible pandemic-inflation rise in the price of eggs (over 40%) and cream (over 20%), both of which are crucial to good ice cream.
Doug has over 20 years' experience making simple, natural ice cream. Now it's available only in Ottawa, Canada's national capital!
This all started in my home, with a simple ice cream maker and a book of recipes. Over time, I've experimented with ingredients and with technique to the point where nobody does ice cream the way I do.
One thing that hasn't changed is natural ingredients and as few of them as possible: cream, milk, sugar, eggs, plus natural flavours. Freshly made ice cream has a taste like no other. My ice cream is fresh because I work strictly in small batches and keep my eye on the quality and the taste.
Tip: Store Doug's Own in a freezer or cooler with a temperature of -17 to -14 degrees Celcius (0 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit). I personally like to keep mine on the warmer end of that scale.
